You can see our current house right behind Rob’s head! We are enjoying the view out the back window, for sure, but it is a bit small for the 5 of us.
We have spent quite a bit of time over the last couple of weeks hunting for a house that is a bit larger than our current one. We are finding many, many that need a lot of work (like no walls, cupboards, windows, did I mention the dead rat on the floor, mold, etc.), are priced too high, don’t have any garden space, no place for the r.v., etc.
We did, however, find one that we though would work. The house itself was very tiny, but it was on a 1/3 acre and had a shop and a large garden area. We put in a full-priced bid, and we still got outbid. By $15,000. That’s what the market is like around here right now. Although we are a little disappointed to not be making plans to move right now, we prayed a lot about it and don’t want to be in a house that is not the right one for us. So, we are back to looking after a short break while we waited for them to make up their minds.
Today we drove by one. Believe it or not, they would not let us view the house. They told our realtor that they would not give a showing without an accepted offer. As if. There may be someone out there (it wouldn’t surprise me the way the market is) that would buy a house they had never stepped foot in, but it won’t be us. So, it’s back to pouring over the computer listings and hopefully, we will see some more possibilities soon.
Your garden is beautiful! That is crazy!!! An offer before you look. Our housing market was that before the last recession (but never an offer prior to looking!). You are lucky you sold your house first, as in that market that is the best position.
Our market is the opposite right now. Houses are just sitting in our area (Delaware) now. And where we want to look, in western Pa., houses are for sale for a couple to several years! So we are not worried about finding a house. Ours is not up for sale yet because we are waiting for my husband to get laid-off so he can collect his severance pay and go into retirement, and then we will move. Andrea
I’m excited for you. Hopefully, your house will sell quickly, and then you will have your pick of all the other houses! I mean, you can wish, right:)
That is crazy, an offer before you can see! I would run far and fast from people like that, anyway! Will you be ok in the RV come winter? I’m so glad you at being calm and not forgetting your focus. I think your large network of friends could come in handy, too, as you might hear of something word of mouth before it gets listed. Your garden looks amazing.
We can stay here as long as we want to. We would have to put gravel down below the camper, and maybe a cover. It would be COZY!!!
I went through something like that when I looked into buying right before I retired. The market was so hot, it would be sold before I could go look. I decided that it must be investors buying lower price houses sight unseen because they have the team to fix them up pretty easily. They were also paying cash, I was told by someone, so that is why they were going so fast. If is really frustrating, I know.
I think you are right. People are flipping houses right and left, and I think the cheap ones are prime candidates for that!
